Truro landmarks Town Hall and Church Attract Provincetown Tourists

At one time, there were so many downed vessels off the coast near the town we now know as Truro, it was known as Dangerfield.  The name Truro was borrowed from a Cornish town that looks similar– the rolling hills and small village.  There is plenty of danger taking place in the sequel to the popular mystery Remaining in Provincetown by S.N. Cook.  Set in Truro during the summer, the landmarks of Truro figure prominently in the story line.  Haven’t read Remaining in Provincetown yet? The antique postcard shown in this blog post, shows Truro Town Hall and  Federated Church on Storm Hill in Truro.  The cemetery has tombstones dating back to the 1700s. A color lithograph print, the card was published when it only cost one penny to mail a postcard in the United States.

Truro Highlands on Cape Cod an Idyllic Setting to Solve a Provincetown Mystery

This beautiful hand colored postcard features a typical shingled Cape Cod cottage from the 19th century complete with out buildings and garden.   There are still many lovely old homes to admire driving along Highland Road towards Highland Lighthouse in North Truro. The flowers tell you it must be summertime and that is the time of year for the sequel to the popular mystery novel Remaining in Provincetown by S. N. This old glossy postcard from the 1960s show Tiny Worthington’s store Fishnet Industries and the caption on the postcard states it was open year round back in the days when telephones were managed by live operators and the phone number was “Provincetown 834”.  Advertised as “The only shop of its kind” the establishment provided year-round employment.  Thirty-five years ago, Truro in the summertime was not very different from Truro in 2015. But what happens when someone is found dead in a beautiful home with an idyllic view of the Pamet River.  Who is going to solve the mystery? Fans of Remaining in Provincetown will be please to know that a sequel has been written.  Currently being edited and reviewed, we’ll keep posting old postcards for your viewing pleasure.  Haven’t read the first book yet?  There’s still time during the cold winter months on Cape Cod.  Currently available online and at your favorite bookstores including the Provincetown Bookshop. Race Point Beach in Provincetown, now a part of the National Seashore is a favorite spot for swimming, fishing, and nature watching where one might catch a glimpse of a seal or whale, depending on the season. But Race Point is also the site of many shipwrecks and between 1873 and 1902 had a Lifesaving station known as Race Point Station. Unfortunately the station was no longer in operation when the fishing schooner Buema crashed into the surf and was wrecked on January 7, 1908.  The above postcard, purchased in 1924 tells the story.  During the time the Race Point Station was in operation they had three surfboats which aided hundreds of seafarers. Among the names of men who served at the lifesaving station and lost their lives aiding others were Captain Dave Atkins and Frank Mayo. Is that where the name for the road Atkins Mayo, the dirt road where two characters in the mystery novel Remaining in Provincetown  live, comes from?  Curious to read the new murder mystery set in Provincetown, the book everyone’s talking about.  You can pick up a signed copy at the Provincetown Book Shop while they last or buy a book online at Amazon.com in trade paperback or ebook. The name of the Inn in Provincetown’s center may have changed from New Central Hotel to Crown & Anchor, but people still hang out and check new visitors walking by, particularly at the height of summer. This beautiful setting on the tip of Cape Cod is filled with a multitude of historic buildings,  has a view of the Bay, many art galleries, shops, and fine restaurants. Some visitors come once and never leave, Remaining in Provincetown, the name of the new murder mystery novel released just two weeks ago, everyone’s talking about.
